Small Bathroom Design Ideas - Vanities, Mirrors, and Lighting

When you are working with a small bathroom, try focusing on design ideas that either create more space or create the illusion of more space. The most popular ways to do this is with vanities, mirrors, and lighting. By using proper sizes and spacing techniques, you can have a small bathroom that is just as functional as a larger one.

Vanities: One of the best ways to use a vanity to maximize space in a small bathroom is to install a wall-mounted vanity. Choose a vanity with a lot of storage space underneath and that includes drawers. This will allow you to remove towel racks from the walls and either install them on the inside of the vanity doors or simply store the towels in a drawer. Another popular option for creating more floor space is to select a vanity that fits in the corner. That way it utilizes what would otherwise end up as wasted space.

If you prefer a floor standing vanity, choose a small vanity or even a small pedestal sink. To recreate the storage space lost by doing this, install recessed shelving. These options will create the storage space you need while creating the clean look of more floor space.

Mirrors: Although you cannot use mirrors to truly create more space, you can use them to create the illusion of more space. Correctly using mirrors can add length, depth and width to your small bathroom. There are several ways to do this. Use the largest mirror possible over your vanity to reflect as much of the room as possible. This will create the illusion of more depth in the room. If you have enough space to do so, you can put two smaller mirrors on opposite walls, with the mirrors facing each other. This creates the illusion that the room does not end. If your room has a shower, you could even replace the shower door with a mirrored door.

Lighting: Proper lighting can be accomplished with windows, light fixtures, or both. Be sure that, whatever lighting options you choose, all corners of the bathroom are well lit. Having dark corners causes the bathroom to appear smaller.

When you are deciding how to adorn the windows in your small bathroom, consider using sheer or lace curtains. This allows more light in, making the room seem larger. If privacy is a concern, then try replacing the glass in your bathroom windows with frosted, etched, or stained panels.

You can also use several techniques with light fixtures. Try installing a strip of lights above the main mirror; this will proved fantastic light and create the illusion of more space. Recessed can lighting is also good. By sinking the lighting into the walls and ceiling you will maximize your wall space for that less is more look. You do not have to feel cramped in your small bathroom anymore. Following the tips above can help you create a bathroom that feels and looks larger than it really is. Add space and give it your personal touch.

Miami - A Spring Break Story, Part Two - Bar Hopping

After a day of lounging on the beach there's nothing better than taking a power nap and heading out for a night on the town. Miami is crowded with trendy nightclubs, bars, and lounges. Unfortunately you can't visit them all. Fortunately, you have me, the girl who can tell you were you must go when you're in Miami. Miami has an unbelievable nightlife and these are the places that make Miami after hours alive and exciting.

Lobby Lounge in downtown Miami is part of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, one of the most elegant and expensive hotels in Miami. If you can't afford to shell out a few hundred dollars a night, you can still get the experience by visiting the Lobby Lounge. Order some of their delicious hors d'oeuvres and snazzy champagne cocktails. It's the perfect way to start off the night...before the night gets too crazy!

Brick's Nightclub and Sky Lounge is the perfect way to see Miami. Sure you're inside but the rooftop sky lounge has the perfect view of Miami's skyline. Brick's is a typical Miami nightclub. 10,000 square feet, an outstanding lighting system, three floors, five bars, and some of the comfiest zebra print couches I have ever sat on!

Churchill's is a unique bar that brings a little bit of England into the all American town of Miami. If you are a beer fan this is the place to go. They offer over a dozen picks of your choice. This isn't a place for all night dancing, but if you want to see a live band or play a little pool you have to go straight to Churchill's!

Nocturnal. Now here is a place to dance the night away! Nocturnal has three different themed floors, each with their own DJ and bar. This "state of the art" 20,000 square foot nightclub has a café, a dozen plasma TVs, and a rooftop dance floor complete with waterfalls and a killer view.

Studio A is for those of you who love a little rock and roll. Or, for that matter a lot of rock and roll. A lot of live rock and roll! Party and dance to the live bands or sit back in a comfy chair, sip a drink, and enjoy the show. Concerts and live shows are on stage almost every night.

Dave and Buster's Miami. Like pool, arcade games, shuffleboard, darts, video games, and just plain fun? Well if you don't, stay away from Dave and Buster's! Make a night out of it. Start off your evening by indulging in one of Dave and Buster's delicious steaks. Head for the bar to order one of their famous drinks and watch some football. Then let the games really begin! I could probably spend the whole day at Dave and Buster's -a few hours never feels like enough!
It is impossible to go to Miami and not have fun. Get a tan, have a few fruity drinks, and then dance the night away in this tropical and lively city!

American Pool Tables Vs English Pool Tables

There are two main types of pool table, upon which are played two quite different versions of the game.

Table Size

English pool tables range in size from 6ft to 8ft, though the official tournament size is 7ft. These sizes refer to the overall length of the table from 'rail to rail'. The playing surface of the competition size table is 6ft by 3ft.

American pool tables are usually 8ft or 9ft, with the official competition size being the 9ft table. Again the size refers to the total length of the table, and the playing surface on the 9ft competition table is 8ft x 4.5ft. In bars and clubs you do sometimes find 7ft American pool tables, referred to as 'bar boxes' because of their small size.

Pool Balls & Pocket Size

The ball sets used on English pool tables comprise 7 red, 7 yellow and 1 black balls. On modern tables the reds and yellows are solid colour, with the black having an '8' in a white circle upon it. The standard size for a 6ft, 7ft or 8ft English pool table is 2", with pockets usually being around an inch larger to accommodate the balls.

The ball sets used on American pool tables are numbered 1-15, which are split into 'solids' and 'stripes. Numbers 1-7 make up the solids, 8 is the black ball, and 9-15 the stripes. The set as standard is:

1. Yellow
2. Blue
3. Red
4. Purple (pink in some ball sets)
5. Orange
6. Green
7. Brown or burgundy (tan in some ball sets)
8. Black
9. Yellow and white
10. Blue and white
11. Red and white
12. Purple and white (pink and white in some ball sets)
13. Orange and white
14. Green and white
15. Brown (or burgundy) and white (tan and white in some ball sets)

The standard size for American pool balls is 2" ¼ with the pockets finished to a larger size than those on an English pool table.

Both English and American pool ball sets have a white cue ball as standard, which can feature red 'target' spots (though these are more typically seen on practice cue balls). In both English and American pool balls, Aramith (a Belgian manufacturer) are recognised as the industry leader in pool balls.

Cloth

English pool tables all have napped cloth, and the current official choice is Strachan West of England wool. The cloth is available in various weights which affect the speed of play and ball behaviour.

American pool tables feature 'speedball' worsted cloth, which has not nap. This makes the cloth much faster, and combined with the larger, heavier balls changes the character of the game significantly from English pool.

Play

The difference in table and ball size means that play on an American pool table is much faster, and potentially more technical than English pool. The larger balls mean the use of masse (high speed spin/side shots normally used in Carom billiards) is more prevalent, and in recent years it has become much more popular than the English version.

The popularity of '9 Ball' has contributed here, which is a faster version of pool played with just the balls numbered 1-9. The balls are racked in a diamond in ascending order from baulk to the bottom of the table. The aim of the game is to pot the 9, but the balls must be potted in ascending numerical order. Cannons and trick shots are allowed however, and you could get lucky and have a 'golden break'. This quick version of pool has become extremely popular in bars and clubs.

Demarini Baseball Bat Review

Is Demarini the best Baseball Bat on the market? The 2009 line up of baseball bats may well be the best bats Demarini has ever made! Established in 1989 Demarini Bats, a sub-division of Wilson, is making a strong case to take over the baseball bat market. All of the Demarini bats have flexed tuned carbon composite handles which are lighter than alloys and will flex 2 to 4 times more providing more power at contact. Demarini makes 3 collegiate and high school approved bats, each having a different patented end cap. New for 2009 Demarini is touting their new "Pitch Black" composite technology claiming it is stronger than competing technologies.

Here is the line-up for 2009

CF3 Black (or special edition white) is a 100 % composite, two piece bat with double walls and "Pitch Black" technology. This technology touts 22% more carbon fibers than any other bat on the market with no fillers added which should give it a distinct advantage when it comes to power. This enables Demarini to double re-enforce a vertical and horizontal weave. This process provides the strongest and tightest composite weave resulting in more over-all power. The 2009 CF3 comes in collegiate or high school sizes as follows:
- 31/28
- 32/29
- 33/30
- 34/31

For senior league:
- 29/21
- 30/22
- 31/23
- 32/24

The 2009 Demarini Voodoo Black is made with pitch black composite handles combined with the newest SC4 Alloy. The Voodoo is a high quality bat with a proven reputation at a very reasonable price. The Voodoo is a very popular bat with a larger sweet spot that the ball really explodes off of. The line-up of 2009 Demarini Voodoos come in Collegiate and High School sizes as follows:
- 31/28
- 32/29
- 33/30
- 34/31

The 2009 Voodoos come in Senior League sizes as follows:
- 29/20
- 30/21
- 31/22
- 32/23 (-9's)

The Demarini Voodoos also come in minus 10 as follows:
- 29/19
- 30/20
- 31/21
- 32/22

The Demarini Vendetta.

Demarinis slogan for the 2009 Vendetta is "Attack the ball with a vengeance." This bat is completely re-designed using "Rail" technology to completely re-define bat handle technology. The 2009 Vendetta comes with 4 flat composite rails with varying flexes that run through the handle and reduces vibration, increases bat speed and delivers a nice combination of handle to barrel flex. New SC4 Alloy in the barrel rounds out this bat of choice for many Division 1 Programs. The 2009 Demarini Vendetta comes in the following sizes for Collegiate and High School baseball:
- 31/28
- 32/29
- 33/30
- 34/31

For Senior League the following sizes are available:
- 29/20
- 30/21
- 31/22
- 32/23

Last but not least is the 2009 Demarini Vexxum. This bat comes with a 100 % composite handle and exclusive SC4 Alloy comprised with Long Barrel technology giving hitters the longest barrel in baseball providing maximum plate coverage and a larger sweet spot. Even though the Vexxum is on the low end of the range for Demarini, it is still a quality bat. The Demarini Vexxum comes in the following sizes for the Collegiate and High School player:
- 31/28
- 32/29
- 33/30
- 34/31

Senior League bats are available in the following sizes:
- 31/26
- 32/27
- 33/28
- 34/29

Youth and Little League are available in the following sizes:
- 28/19.5
- 29/20.5
- 30/21.5
- 31/22.5
- 32/23.5 (-8's)

Youth and Little League also are available at -10 in the following sizes:
- 27/17
- 28/18
- 29/19
- 30/20
- 31/21
- 32/22 (-10's)

Demarini is a player in the baseball bat industry and provides quality bats in both the high and low price range. You can't go wrong with a Demarini Bat. To see more of my Baseball Equipment reviews visit me at Rick's Bats and Gloves, ETC.

Top 10 Ingredients of a Great Bar

1. Reasonable drink prices - nobody likes paying over the odds for drinks and, while cheap drinks often means a poor venue, reasonable prices are a major plus point.

2. Fun and friendly atmosphere - If the bar's deathly quiet or overly busy, then it's never fun and rarely a good atmosphere. But a good number of the right type of people makes for a top venue.

3. Adequate temperature - Pubs that are too hot are horribly uncomfortable, while having to wear your coat because it's cold is never good.

4. A good number of seats - Maybe it's my age, but having enough places to sit down and enjoy your friends' company is a great bonus to a great bar.

5. Plenty of bar staff - The more time spent waiting at the bar, the less time you have to enjoy yourself, so an adequate number of people serving is always a positive.

6. Wide selection of drinks - It's always a pain when you order a drink and the bar staff say 'we don't have it', so somewhere that has a wide selection will always be popular.

7. Great location - Being well situated to other good bars will always enhance a venue's success, because people flock to locations rather than a stand alone bar.

8. Not too loud - If you can't hear what each other are saying, prepare to have very sore vocal chords for the next 24 hours. While atmosphere is good, loud music can be more off-putting than an attraction.

9. Easy to get to and from - If the bar is hard to get to, there's every chance you won't be going there often. Good bus, rail or road links are always important.

10. Helpful staff - As well as creating the friendly atmosphere discussed earlier, it's also a major bonus when you know they're helpful. From lost phones and coats to providing taxi numbers, a good bar isn't just there to take your money and turf you out on last orders.

To help you find a great bar, it could be worth using a local online directory. For instance, if you live in Cardiff, a Cardiff directory will provide details and reviews on a wide number of bars in Cardiff.

Forget Flying - Take A Snow Train To The Alps

I've realised that planning a holiday is one of the most stressful experiences. I thought booking for two people was bad – try booking for a whole group. Adding to the stress is modern day air travel. Restrictions on hand luggage, costs for taxes, costs for extra bags, costs for extra leg room, flights cancelled due to strikes. The stress is never ending.

Flying to London once a week from Edinburgh, I get to see my fair share of delays and extra costs, so when I came to booking a group ski holiday I decided to avoid risking a repeat experience.

Choosing not to fly to the French Alps leaves two options. One, a 24 hour coach journey with cramped seats or secondly, take the train. The big issue here though is price. A typical return coach journey from London to Tignes costs £109 (quoted by National Express) whereas a return train journey using Eurostar's overnight ski train service costs around £219 for a standard return ticket in March.

Ruling out the coach journey, I decided to go for the train. The other major factor between travelling by air and rail is carbon dioxide emissions. With all the publicity surrounding man made global warming, travelling by train is the eco-tourists choice of travel. Typical CO2 emissions for a return flight to France are estimated at 250kg/CO2. The equivalent journey by train sees emissions cut to around 40kg/CO2.

Having made my decision to travel by train I looked into the other benefits of travelling on snow trains. The two main snow train providers are Eurostar and Rail Europe, both of whom operate day and night services to the French Alps. On the night train, Rail Europe's snow trains have a bar and a disco carriage. A couple of glasses of wine followed by some cheesy dancing and you can then retire to the four or six berth couchette accommodation (located well away from the disco carriage).

Another great benefit of taking the train is the ability to carry your skis or snowboard free of charge, unlike air travel where you normally have to pay at least £15 per ski set, per flight.

But perhaps the greatest benefit of all is two additional days skiing. Normally when you pay for a weeks ski holiday you travel Saturday to Saturday but by taking the snow train and travelling overnight, you can ski both Saturdays and get two additional days skiing. Marvellous.

With only 3 overnight ski trains left this season, the snow train is definitely worth considering for a final fling on the slopes.

Munich Germany -- 10 Insider Tips

Munich Germany is a city in the state Bavaria. Would you like to know what the real interesting sights in Munich Germany are? I will tell you 10 of my good ones.

If you would like to know something about the city and its history, visit my website for information about that. In this article I will let you know of 10 insider tips of this German city -- short and sweet -- so that you can print them out and easily scour the sights.

First, once you arrive in the city, go to the tourist information office. It is located at Munich Germany main station (outside) or at Marienplatz (downtown).

Also, since you already know that this city is venue of the well-known Oktoberfest, there is actually no need for me to tell you anything about that, right?

Now, shall we get started? Great! :-)

TOP 10 Bars and Restaurants

1. An absolute must-see and must-experience is the "Hundskugel" (Dogs Ball) located in Hotterstrasse in old town. This is Munich's oldest house which has the perfect ambience for original Bavarian food (e.g. "Schweinshaxe" -- knuckle of pork). Quite frankly, once you were here, your friends will become envious you were there without them.

2. The "Schuhbecks in den Suedtiroler Stuben" (Schubecks in the South Tyrol Rooms) is a tavern with notable factor. They serve original Bavarian cuisine in high quality. It is located at "Platzl" in old town.

3. Another excellent restaurant with original Bavarian cuisine is "Gasthaus Beim Sedlmayr" (Tavern by Sedlmayr). The funny and happy waiters make your time even more glamorous and jollier. Their menu has "all you ever need" once you are in Munich.

4. The "Haxnbauer im Scholastikahaus" (sorry, I'm not able to translate that yet...;-), located next to Marienplatz in Sparkassenstrasse, inspires visitors to stay longer than they might want once they enter. It's just amazing, old woody walls and tables, smelling beer and meat, just unforgettable.

5. If you are looking for a chance to see famous football stars and actors, you have to go to the noble P1. I must admit it is not easy to enter this exceptional bar, but definitely worth more than one try. You will find it in Prinzregentenstrasse. The location is, however, quite hidden. Only a small sign beside stairs refers to the legendary club discotheque. Tip: It might be a bit easier if you go in as a couple.

Sightseeing and culture

6. Stroll along Ludwigstrasse. Ludwig I. underlined the royal Munich with this classicistic boulevard. As a road of sciences, the Ludwigstrasse (Ludwigstreet) is one of the most monumental and most generous roads created in the 19th century. The monument of king Ludwig I on Odeonsplatz, created by Max Widmann, reminds of the owners and name giver who had to withdraw in 1848 after the Lola Montez affair.

7. The Maximilianstrasse (Maximilian Street) spreads still old flair while strolling through this historical street. With museums and theatres, galleries and numerous exclusive shops, this splendour road certainly belongs to the most distinguished addresses of Munich Germany.

8. Are you art and historical interested? Then walk along the Prinzregentenstrasse (Prince Regent Road). It is considered as museum mile. Prince Regent Luitpold let put on this avenue road at the end of the 19th century.

9. The Englischer Garten (English Gardens) is Munich Germany's famous 900-acre park. It is actually starting in the heart of the city and transitioning into the countryside. The park offers shaded paths for walking and cycling in summer and picturesque frozen lakes in winter. In addition, it contains four beer gardens (Chinesischer Turm, Seehaus, Hirschau, Aumeister), whose invite to stay long after sunset.

10. Marienplatz is world-wide well-known with the "new" Neo-Gothic City Hall and its "Gingle Bells" sounds. Acutally a huge square with some interesting taverns. Visit http://www.smart-travel-germany.com/munich.html for additional information and images.

By the way, from Munich Germany's main station, it is a quite short way to downtown and old town -- just a few minutes walk.

Enjoy your trip!

All the best,

Marcus Hochstadt

Ways to Cut Alcohol Costs at Your Wedding

One of the most expensive parts of the wedding reception can be the alcohol. You want to put on a great party for your guests, but at the same time keep the bar tab reasonable. There are a few ways that you can cut costs on the liquor without appearing to cut corners.

At any type of party, the hosts need to set their priorities. Do you want to focus your budget on the flowers, or the music, or the food and drink? Perhaps if she can save a little money on the cost of the reception, the bride could afford to give more special custom bridal jewelry sets to her bridesmaids (it goes without saying that custom bridal jewelry for the bride has a place in the budget - the wedding gown simply isn't complete without it!). Or maybe cutting down on the alcohol would allow you to take a longer honeymoon, or simply to avoid overspending. There are many good reasons to look for ways to cut costs at your reception.

It would be easy to say, we will save money by having a cash bar. Although that would be the least expensive option for the bride and groom, it is not really very nice to expect your guests to pay for their own refreshments. The trick is to save money while still being gracious and hospitable.

A good place to start is with a frank discussion with your caterer, before signing the contract. If you let them know that you very much want them for your wedding, but can only hire them if they help you with the liquor budget, they may have some good suggestions. (Or if not, you may want to choose a different caterer.)

An easy way to keep the bar tab under control is only to serve "rail" or non-brand alcohol. If each guest consumes two cocktails at $5 each instead of $7 apiece, that would total a savings of $400 for 100 guests. An even better way to save is to bring in your own liquor if your venue permits it. You can often find much better prices on wine and alcohol at warehouse type stores, especially if you live in or near a state that does not tax alcohol, like New Hampshire. Some stores will even permit you to return any unopened bottles, so you do not have to worry about over-buying.

Other tactics include having an open bar during the cocktail hour, and then serving only wine and beer during the dinner. Most guests will be perfectly happy with this arrangement, and a glass of the house white will cost you a lot less than a Grey Goose martini. Another great idea is to serve one signature cocktail instead of having a full open bar. It looks very chic to have a special drink just for your wedding, and it can also save money, depending what you choose (if it has a flavorful juice or syrup base, nobody will be able to tell that you used the non-brand vodka).

Managing a budget for your wedding is always a delicate balancing act. On the one hand, the bride and groom want to make everything just perfect, but on the other hand, almost every couple faces the reality of what they can actually afford. The alcohol bill can be an easy place to cut costs without taking anything away from the beauty of your wedding day.

Technics SA-929 Stereo Receiver

I always wanted one of these little Technics receivers. Trouble is, it seems that people treat these like junk. Every one of these that I came across was either burned out, totally dead with major internal damage or just beaten to pieces. This one is an exception...outside of a burned out bulb and dirty protection relay contacts, it works perfectly. It puts out somewhere around 30 watts of power into an 8 ohm load, and has (probably) useless-but-cool power indicator "bar" LEDs on the front panel. Another problem with these receivers comes from the Sanyo-designed and/or sourced integrated power amp package. These "stereo amp in a black box" amplifier modules sometimes self-destruct, especially if driven hard. An electronic circuit in the package is supposed to disconnect the speakers from the amplifier if this happens, but it usually is damaged when the integrated final transistors fail. The result is a power supply voltage rail appearing on the speaker wires. This burns out the speaker, or if you're really unlucky and both channels of the device fail, both of your speakers may be burned out. Most of the Technics receivers of this style don't have an external protection relay to stop this. This one is a notable exception in that it does have the relay...so speakers attached to it ought to be safe. It's a big enough problem that if yours does not, you should use outboard speaker protection devices.

Railings Can Beautifully Accessorize Any Home

If there's one thing that can improve the appearance of a home whether indoors or outdoors, it's the railings. Perhaps you've seen a house with a balcony either on the ground level or at the upper level. Admit it or not, you were attracted in one way or another to the railings of the balcony, right?

Railing with beautiful designs and unique styles are great add ons. When installed on a balcony on the ground level or on garden or patio decks, they're nice to sit on while relaxing. But more than the aesthetic sense, railings also serve an important purpose. They're used to provide security to people.

Can you imagine a balcony, a staircase or a garden deck without the railings? They not only look drab but they can be scary as well. But with the railings installed, parents can feel secure that their small children will be protected while playing in the garden, balcony or while going up and down the stairs.

Railings come in different types. These can be the stair railings, bar hand and foot rails as well as balcony and deck railings. They can also be made from various materials today. Homeowners can choose the type of railings they want for their homes depending on the overall theme of the house. For indoor use, the interior design theme has to be taken into consideration.

Wooden railings create a classic look and ambience to any interior space. This can be the plain type or the moulded kind. Wood provides a different feel to the hands. They're smooth and warm to touch the reason why they're preferred by many homeowners. The most commonly used type of hard wood for railings are the oak, pine, maple and mahogany because of their strength.

Metal railings are also a popular choice today not only for homes but for commercial buildings as well. They can include iron, stainless steel and brass, which is actually an alloy of copper and zinc. Perhaps the main reason why some homeowners are attracted to these metal railings is the fact that they can be used to create intricate designs. Take for instance the wrought iron. Because it can be bent unlike wood, numerous designs can be created using it.

The metal railings are ideal for outdoor use because of their durability and resistance to any type of weather. They can also be combined with wood and glass as well as other materials for a unique look.

Using metals for stair railings in the home are also common today. When installed in wide and tall staircases, they are fantastic to look at. They even add value to the home. They're highly important for any stairs whether it has two to three or more steps.

Railings need to be installed properly to provide security to occupants of a home and its guests on special occasions. They are permanent fixtures and therefore, have to be secured to its base and post the right way.

Make your home a nice place to come home to or visit by ensuring that you have appropriate railings where needed.

How to Do Lunges

Today you're going to discover how to do lunges, but first, let's look at a big pet-peeve of mine in terms of program design. The thing that bugs me is that trainers tell everyone to do lunges, but most people have terrible form.

So overall, I'd say lunges are the most over-rated exercise in your program. You need to learn how to do them correctly, so today you'll also get a good lesson on lower body training. So, we will look at split squats and lunges. Specifically, when to use them, what to start with, and how to progress.

A pet peeve of mine is seeing trainers take beginners through a series of lunges when really they should have no business doing lunges in the first place.

A lunge is a very difficult exercise that requires not only a lot of coordination, but a good deal of lower body strength as well, both of which beginners or overweight individuals tend to lack. On top of that, many overweight individuals have knee problems so performing lunges only intensifies the pain.

So when I see trainers taking these individuals through a series of lunges along with giving them weights before they can even perform the exercise properly you can imagine how irked I get.

Instead of lunges, what I like to do is have people start with split squats. A split squat is really just a stationary lunge. So to get in position; place one leg in front and one behind, drop your hips straight down and then drive back up. The great thing about this exercise is you can do it with assistance by using a rail or a bar to hold onto.

For a beginner, by performing the split squat with assistance will improve your form as well as help you to discover which muscles are being worked. So start with a split squat using something to help you balance, and then progress to just using your bodyweight to perform the exercise, and then you can move onto dumbbells or a medicine ball.

If you are going to do lunges in your workouts, then I have a 3-step progression I recommend for beginners. To start, instead of doing forward lunges, do reverse lunges.

This exercise is a little bit easier. So, for the reverse lunge, your front leg stays stationary, while your other leg slides back and you drop straight down. Return back to original position and repeat. Once all repetitions have been done for one side, then you can switch legs.

After you have mastered the reverse lunge, you can now attempt the forward lunge. So step out a little more than a normal step, get a nice plant with your front foot, drop straight down, and then push back up to the start position.

Your knee isn't going to explode if you happen to go past your toes on the way down, but you have an increased chance of losing your balance, and if you have knee problems, then you don't want to overload the joint. The further you go out with that foot, the more stress that gets placed on that knee.

And lastly, we can then move on to diagonal lunges. To perform this exercise, step out at a 45 degree angle, keep your toe pointing forward, and then drive back up. For the athletes and individuals who are comfortable with this exercise, you can really step out at an angle and get a strong stretch and a nice range of motion.

So that is the split squat to the lunge progression. Remember to be conservative. And that's how to do lunges and split squats, properly.

Pool Tables In Bars - Different Size?

An art form in itself, bar pool is a true test of nerves and skill. Between the crowd of people, loud music, and cramped conditions, a pool player must stay focused and flexible.

The seven foot pool table usually found in bars is often a coin operated model. The coin operated seven foot pool tables in bars have oversized white cue balls somewhat larger than the rest of the billiard balls, so that the automatic return function works. This also presents a challenge for all types of shots, especially those shots made off the rail, a jump shot, or a draw shot.

Pool tables used to be ten feet long years ago, and antique ten foot pool tables still can be found in old pool halls. The playing field dimensions of a pool table are sanctioned by the Billiard Congress of America (BCA) and are standard throughout the industry. Although professional tournaments are usually played on nine foot tables, the BCA rules permit tournaments to be played on any pool table that is twice as long as it is wide. But, the larger the playing field is on a pool table, the more challenging the pool game.

Almost all pool tables in bars are 7' long by 3.5' wide. These dimensions describe the playing field or area inside the cushions, and do not include the outside parameters. The "standard" size most people have in their homes are 8' x 4' and the "standard tournament" pool tables are 9' x 4.5' (considered "regulation" size). Most pool tables are perfect rectangles, but there are specialty tables made in round and hexagon shapes.

Room size is obviously a major consideration when choosing a pool table, but playing skill is also important. Pool tables measuring 4' x 8' are the norm in homes where space is at a premium. Many casual players prefer the standard eight foot table, even when they have space for a larger table. Serious players prefer a nine foot table, but may have to settle for a smaller table due to room size. There is a compromise; the "oversize eight" foot pool table is 2" wider and 4" longer than an 8 foot table and is chosen when the player wants the largest pool table possible but just don't have enough room for a nine foot pool table.

Then again, some people have become so accustomed to playing on seven foot bar size pool tables, they prefer to have the same size pool table in their home - and just bring the party home!

Model Railroad Electronics Provide Many Choices to Make Model Trains Perform Different Functions

It's important when dealing with model railroad electronics that the transmitter, decoder and power stations you use in the model train set up follow NMRA guidelines so that different tracks and accessories from different manufacturers can be used together. The model train you choose will depend on the space you have for setting up. After deciding the scale, which may be Z, N, or O, you have to decide on the scenery. For scenery you can use dedicated software or artistically create the scenarios. For the trains to move on the rail tracks, you will require some electronics to be used on the rail tracks and applied to the model train. You can also get advice from the hobbyist store from where you will buy the model train. They might be able to sell you a set up with electronics included and "do it yourself" instructions. You can read about the electronics required in the model train set up on the web. Join a club to share information with other people like you. Different levels of model train enthusiastic people will require different levels of model railroad electronics in their model train set up.

Different kinds of circuits can be made, namely throttle, train detection, animation, control, and general purpose circuits. For the model train set up to work, and do activity, different kinds of model railroad electronics will be used in the tracks. You can have the following kinds of circuits based on the detector mechanism:

Light activated detector circuits.
Current activated block occupancy detector circuits.
Switch machine control circuits.
Automatic reversing circuits.
Automatic operations circuits.
Signals Circuits.
DC throttles.
DCC circuits.

Some beginner train sets have the model railroad electronics included in them for you to run the trains. Along with the tracks, the engine, you also get a transformer and remote control track set. You might have a level crossing which when connected to the model railroad electronics will make sound and close the gate while the train is passing through. There might be a station which beeps when the train enters the station and when the train leaves the station the station makes a train leaving announcement.

Multi-protocol stations are also available. These stations when attached to the model railroad electronics can control more than one locomotives moving on the track. They even have large color touch screen controllers. The station will represent locomotives in color images on a display unit. The station can have a built in locomotive database and locomotive card readers. It can have a powerful booster in the station for providing power to the train layout and accessory current. There can be track diagram controller boards and route controllers. Several such stations can be also used in the circuit of the train tracks. The station could also contain a central stop button. There can be as many as 10 or 15 controllable locomotive functions. There can be keyboards for many solenoid accessories. The built in track diagram control board will help to change tracks. The built in route control along with the shuttle train control can also be present in the station.

Remote control turntable, turntable controller, and turntable extension are also available that can be used on your track circuit. These turntables are used in the stations to change the direction of your engine. Normally if you are buying a model train set for home use you will get all instructions to the joining of the tracks and running of the model train from any manufacturer. If you choose to buy accessories and add them to your circuit then too you should receive some printed material. It is also advised that you contact a professional who knows about model railroad electronics, electricity, and helps you with any connectivity requirements.

The Ten Worst Pieces of Training Equipment I've Ever Used

Almost every single gym in the world has a piece of equipment in it that every member hates to use. It sits in the corner like a mousetrap, waiting for the next victim to get close. I've traveled the world in search of the worst of these diabolical machines (well, not really, but you get the idea).

Keep in mind, these are real pieces of equipment that I've actually used (but not for long!).

1. The Power Rack With Aluminum Safety Rails - if a rack has safety rails that are 1 inch in diameter, weigh 3 pounds each and are BENT, stay far, far away.

2. The Eight-Foot Pulldown Machine - have you ever used a pulldown machine where you needed to stand up on the seat to be able to reach the bar? It's about as practical as playing golf with a bowling ball (a little tricky to get into position if you're using more than your bodyweight too).

3. The Back-Breaker Crunch Machine - try a rep in this thing. It'll fold you up like an enchilada and not in a good way. That sharp, shooting pain in your lower back does NOT mean your abs are working.

4. The Short and Skinny Flat Bench - I have no idea who built this thing as I've only ever seen it one gym but this guy needs to be fired. This wonderfully unstable twelve-inch long bench is perfect for exercises that don't require a good base of support or pretty much any support at all. It was the only "bench" in the entire gym that wasn't nailed down so it was all I had to use for 500-pound partial bench presses. Fun!

5. The Shoulder-Separator Flye Machine - the designers of this machine must not have realized that your shoulders don't bend backwards quite as far as they go forward. Never before had I seen a machine that almost made your elbows touch behind your back for a "complete" stretch.

6. The Self-Impaling Cable Row Machine - I quite like cable row machines that have a support pad for your chest. I encountered one version that had a pad that was all of 2 square inches and set so that it pressed directly into your solar plexus as you rowed. It was like getting punched in the guts with every rep!

7. The Trampoline Stair Machine - what could be better than a stair machine that automatically shoots your one leg back up so fast as you push the other one down that you almost knock your teeth out with your knee? How about an escalator.

8. The Crooked Smith Machine - normally when you look at the bar on a Smith Machine, it is horizontal. Not this thing. I must confess, I didn't actually use it though. The fact that everyone who did any exercises on this machine walked away leaning at a 20-degree angle kind of scared me off.

9. The Seatless Stationary Bike - I didn't actually use this one either, for reasons too painful to discuss.

10. The Knee-Cracker Leg Extension Machine - the leg extension is not the healthiest exercise for your knees to begin with but the designer of this machine for some reason felt it necessary to enhance this danger by inclining the seat. Imagine doing a leg extension with your hips down, your knees up level with your chest and your heels forced back underneath your butt. When the sounds of someone crushing bubble wrap comes out of your knees, you know something is not quite right with the machine.

Zumiez Couch Tour 2008 - Stop #8 Katy, TX

Peter Ramondatta and Adrian Lopez join up with the rest of the guys. More of the Circa and Real team showed up for the demo than in Dallas. Peter Ramondetta and Adrian Lopez joined Tony Tave, Ernie Torres, Justin Brock, David Reyes, Julian Davidson and Robbie Brockel. Peter killed this demo just like every spot he goes to. He landed kick flip bs smith, switch crooks, fs hurricane down the rail, and kick flip front board on the bump to bar. Tony Tave boosted a big fs flip over the handrail, a switch bs tail slide and a fs shuv nose manual up the euro gap. Ernie killed the tranny with bs overcrook, fs overcrook, and a fs smith to crail slide too! Justin Brock landed tre flip and fs big spin down the double and a fs 180 switch nosegrind on the quarter. David Reyes got nose blunt fakie first try down the rail. Julian Davidson landed a bs flip on the double, bs lip & bs smith down the hubba. Chicago's The Frantic rocked. Scary Kids Scaring Kids played their last gig on the Zumiez Couch Tour 2008.

Choosing a Split Rail Fence

When it comes to choosing a fence for the garden it is a good idea to spend as much time as you can afford in order to get the right type. Many people end up choosing a split rail fence, but there are a few things you need to bear in mind before choosing this style. These essentially relate to whether you want a two- or three-bar fence, the materials you will use, and whether or not to install the fence yourself.

The first choice is fairly simple, because if you do not need to keep any livestock under control than a two-bar fence is probably fine for your needs. This can look really good, especially in a rural setting, as does the three-bar type. The three-bar style is much stronger, and this really only needs to be considered if you do need to keep any kind of animals in a paddock or large field.

When it comes to materials, the traditional style is done in wood. However, there are now many types of artificial split rail fence available, made from various plastics, and these can be a good choice because they are very long-lasting and can also help with keeping the costs down.

This brings us to the third point, and as mentioned above, if you want to have a cheap fence you would do well to look at some of the synthetic materials that are now available. A split rail fence has the reputation for being something that is found in a rustic environment, and therefore needs to be made of natural materials. But some of the best plastic fences now look very authentic and most people cannot tell the difference from a distance.

By following this process you should be able to choose a split rail fence that will fit in with your needs and your budget.
