Understanding the Purpose of Foot Rails

Foot rails are very common today in bars. They're used in the home or in commercial bars. They are fixtures that make your feet comfortable and they can make any bar look classy.

Apart from its aesthetic sense, foot rails have a purpose. By its name alone, it's meant to provide comfort to the feet whether a person is standing or seated on a chair. It can be quite tiring to just stand with both feet on the ground but with a foot rail in place, you can stand with the other feet elevated for added comfort.

Foot rails can also be added to trucks. To succeed in the installation process, you have to get the proper measurement and read the instructions well. Holes will also have to be drilled on the truck's body or chassis to attach the rails using screws. The purpose of foot rails in trucks is to serve as resting place for the feet. It also makes for a unique look.

It's amazing how the plain tubing has been made into a more functional fixture. Without this material, the bar could have remained simple and a drab. The fact is, foot rails are available today in different materials which means you can match it with the theme of your interior space.

Wood is a popular and classic choice but other materials have evolved to provide people with more choices. There's the metal foot rail that has become a preferred option these days. It can be made from stainless steel, aluminum or brass. The brass rail evokes an elegant look because of its yellow finish that resembles the color of gold. Finishes vary as well such as the polished copper, bronze, brass, stainless steel, satin stainless steel, satin nickel and powder coated colors.

Foot rails need not be a straight line all the time. With so many companies manufacturing this fixture nowadays, customization is the current trend. There are those that can expertly bend and miter foot rail tubings to fit any bar measurement especially those that have corners. Foot rails can also be ordered in specific lengths for people who want to install the fixture on their own.

Other components are required to complete any foot rail project. These are the end caps, flush fittings, flanges and the post and floor brackets.

The end caps complete the look of your foot rails. They can be flat, round or decorative depending on your preference. This component is easy to install you just need to slip it on the end of the tubing. But you can use a strong glue to keep it secured.

Foot rail brackets come in different types as well. The combination type is one which can be mounted to the floor and to the bar itself. These are secured using the screws. For one foot rail, you will need several brackets which should be placed at a distance of six inches from the end of the tubing or at least three brackets for an eight-foot rail.

Preparation is key to installing a great foot rail. This ensures that the measurements and your materials are correct.

How to Plan Your Home Bar

Any home remodeling project needs good planning. Whether it's a minor or major task, it's vital to take several important things into account. A home bar is a great addition to any home of any size. It not only provides convenience to homeowners but a comfortable place to relax and entertain guests as well.

You can enjoy the convenience a bar provides on instances when you want to relax after a busy day in the office or in your business and have some drinks. Even if you're alone, you can just sit there and relax while sipping your favorite drink and watching a TV show. It does not even have to be night time to do this because on your day off or on weekends, you can choose your own sweet time to be at your home bar.

If you're a party person, then creating a home bar will definitely fulfill your dream of having the perfect venue to entertain your friends regardless if there is a special occasion or not.

To start off, making a plan is very important. This particular plan should detail the measurements of your bar including its bar rails and the design. It might help you a lot if you also list down your budget, the number of high chairs you need, the materials you want and whether you'll have your bar custom made or you're going to build one from scratch.

For the design, the latest trend is the sports bar. This is what most men prefer today especially those who enjoy different types of games ranging from the billiards, darts and arcade games.

The first part you should focus on is the main structure or the counter. You can create shelves or divisions in the inner part where you can put your glasses, drinks and other accessories if you like.

On the outer part, you can install bar rails notably on the lower portion. These accessories are meant as a resting place for the feet to give more comfort to your guests. The rail normally covers the entire distance of your bar and should go around the corner if necessary. Depending on your personal preference, this particular accessory can be made from either wood or steel. Just make sure that it matches the style and design of your bar and most importantly, it's installed securely to the structure to make it last long.

These bar rails are installed together with end caps and brackets. Without them, the rail won't be put in place properly.

The next components to consider are your stools or high chairs. These should also match your bar and should be comfortable to sit on even for several hours. You can choose from the stationary chair or a swivel one.

There are other components that you may want to add later on if you have extra funds but initially, the main parts will be enough to serve the real purpose of your bar. Once set up, you can then start purchasing your wines and other beverages that have longer expiry dates.

Deciding on What Foot Rails to Match Your Bar

If you're a person fond of gathering family and friends at your home every now and then, having a bar is an ideal option. This small space is a nice alternative to the usual living space or outdoor patio where people normally accommodate small get-togethers on special occasions. At least here, you can serve only drinks and cocktail food instead of the regular meals.

Perhaps you may now be considering putting up a bar in your own home or a restaurant that you manage. That would be a great idea and one that can actually add value to your property. However, other than the structure itself, there's an important component that you need to take into account.

I'm talking about the foot rail, a fixture that will ensure the comfort of your guests whether in a residential or commercial space. Consider this. Isn't it that while at a bar, standing with both feet on the ground is quite tiring compared to having one foot elevated? Or while seated on a high stool, isn't it that you feel uncomfortable with both feet hanging? For sure, you get what I mean.

But with a foot rail to rest your feet on, you can enjoy every moment with your family and friends. You can drink and talk about a lot of things that interest you with other people until the wee hours of the morning if you wish.

For the rail, you have several choices in terms of material. You can choose between wood, wrought iron, bronze, metal and brass depending on your personal preference. Each has its own unique features that will suit every bar in a home. Brass is a popular choice mainly due to its gold-like appearance and mirror finish.

Other than the regular and plain tube style, you can have your foot rail customized. A unique style rarely seen in restaurants is the iron and bronze rope rail with rounded ends. This type is perfect for country clubs and home bars with a country or rustic theme.

Foot rails can be bought in different sizes but they normally come in the tube type with brackets and end caps to complete the fixture. The tubing's diameter and length can vary the reason why it is recommended that you measure your bar area before purchasing your rail.

The brackets are the parts that hold the tubing to keep it in place, well balanced and sturdy. The cap or finial covers both ends of the tubing and this also comes in the plain and decorative types such as the end scroll. This accessory is glued to the rail to hold it firmly.

Accessorize your bar with the best foot rail possible. Deciding on what material to use depends on the style of your bar and your personal preference. If you're not the hands on homeowner or business owner, get someone who can get the proper measurements before you order your foot rail. This way, you save time and money and you are assured of a great looking bar.

Installing a Garage Door Opener

Garage door openers help you in opening and closing the garage doors. Installing them is not very complicated if you have some information regarding these doors and their working process. Here is a simple guide that will help you in installing garage door opener.

Installing a Garage Door Opener

- Examine your door of your garage and try to make sure that it's ready for safe installation.

- The springs of your door must be in a proper working order for installing garage door openers. By proper order, it means that they must be capable of carrying the weight of the door.

- Then, you need to install the opener. For this purpose, put it together with a rail on the door that leads the trolley along with the belt.

- After that, link one end of the rail to the power unit and the other to the opposite ending.

- Use manufacturers guide to efficiently complete this stage.

- Raise the idler bracket making sure that it is directed to the center of the wall, just above the door. Then attach the idler bracket to idler unit.

- When it is done, slide the trolley to idler side of the unit after closing the door; and join the door bracket to the top of the garage door.

- And in the end, you just need to join the curved and the straight bar together.

That would complete the installation of garage door openers. You can install the controls inside as well as from the outside of your garage. Though, some steps of this process are very complicated but you can always come up with them if you have enough information regarding the doors of your garage and garage door openers.

How to Make Big Savings on Your Holiday in Italy

Holidaying in Italy can be expensive but here are three ways to make big savings without compromising on quality, your comfort or enjoyment.

1) A large part of your vacation expenditure will be taken up by accommodation. Hotels and Bed and Breakfasts can be expensive in Italy and self catering accommodation of a similar quality will typically cost you around 25% less. An increasingly popular alternative to Hotels and B&Bs is to rent an apartment for the duration of your stay. The money saved with apartment rental can be even higher for groups of more than two. Compare the price of renting a 2 bedroom apartment suitable for 4 people to paying for 2 double bedrooms in a hotel and you could easily save up to 50% off the total bill. This makes renting an apartment particularly cost effective for family holidays.

2) In Italy, like everywhere else, prices tend to be much higher in tourist congested areas. Public transport, on the other hand, is relatively cheap when compared to other developed countries so staying in well-connected areas with good transport links can save you substantial amounts on all kinds of services from simply having a coffee or ice cream at a bar to eating out or lodging. The picturesque and historic town of Tarquina in northern Lazio for example, is set in beautiful green countryside while also very well connected by road and rail making it perfect as a rural retreat. The regular train service to Rome takes just 1 hour and the ticket price is a genuine bargain at 6.20€ each way.

3) For people who are new to Italy the difference between various types of eating establishments may not be immediately obvious. A trattoria is a traditional Italian place to go and eat out which tends to be less formal than a ristorante. In a trattoria the service may come with fewer frills but the food quality is just as good as and often better than a restaurant, this is especially true in the traditional family run trattoria. Just look to where native Italians go to eat out if you need a well informed judge. Apart from lower prices the food portions are often more plentiful in a trattoria so they are great value for a family who has worked up a big appetite after a long day of sightseeing.

In summary, Italy's abundance of attractions makes it a very popular tourist destination. As a result of this popularity it can also be expensive. However the good news is that for a great vacation in Italy you don't need to sacrifice any of the sights, itineraries or your comfort. A little preparation and spending wisely will help you stay within your budget while having a great holiday.

Home Preparation For Stroke Patients

You are shocked to utter disbelief. A loved one who has been in your life forever and has always been strong, healthy and happy has suddenly collapsed and is in Intensive Care in the hospital. The doctors are calling it a stroke. They say the first seventy two hours are critical, and once that bridge is crossed, there is a good chance for survival. Survival? What do they mean by that? Will things go back to normal? The doctors are muttering something about long term care by the family. Long term... Oh no, how will we handle this? Your head is spinning.

Let's stop for a moment and take a long deep breath. Let's take a few moments to look at what stroke recovery really means for the patient, and for the family. After the basic treatment for the stroke is over, then the patient will be referred to a facility for some physical, occupational and speech therapy if needed. Depending on the abilities and needs of the patient, there may be a brief stay at the therapy facility as an in-patient. Eventually the patient is able to go home with assistance from the family and probably with home care services that will do the therapies plus give baths and provide other services. These are all worked out with the patients insurance and a case planner and a family member.

As far as home preparations, of major essence is the patient's safety. Someone will come out to your home and help you decide what needs to be done to make things workable for all family members concerned. If your home is a two story home, then arrangements may need to be made for a first floor bedroom which will be an inconvenience, but not when love is involved. Safety issues need to be addressed like smoke, CO detectors and emergency fire escape plans. Loose carpets and mats need to be removed. Check for items like cords that could cause tripping.

For the stroke recovery Patient, the bedroom needs to be a comfortable place. You may need to rent a hospital bed, have a bedside table, a trapeze bar, a bedside commode, a radio and television, books, other reading materials, etc. Have a flashlight available on the nightstand. The bathroom needs to be filled with non slip equipment, including grab rails on the back on the toilet, the edge of the vanity and in the shower or tub. Non skid safety strips should be in the shower.

With the comforts of home, and the proper care and therapies, the stroke recovery may pass quickly and the patient will be back to normal quickly. Good luck to all.

Nokia N95-8GB Loose Slider Fix

Update 26.05.2010! READ THIS FFS! ^^ Check out this link for bending the metal clamp instead of fiddling with the plastic rail and some tape. horners.at I have recently tested this and it works better, it will keep the phone tight for the rest of it's natural life. There is only one catch, the metal bar is fairly brittle, so be very careful when you bend it, and remember you don't need to bend it much, fraction of a mm will do. Do several test fits while you carefully bend. Kudos and thanks to the user who gave me the link: youcancallmeelove Give him a pat on the back and a thanks if you visit his channel. Update 16.02.08 (Read this) Tape used in video is a bit to thick. Be very accurate and careful with the tape piece or else it wont stick to the plastic rail properly. How to fix loose slider on a Nokia N95-8GB, it's a bit different/harder than fixing a regular N95. This is probably the fifth time I do this and this mod seem to be very good. Same smooth slide without the annoying click on the left side of the screen. Cons and pros. +Removes the loose slider on right side. +Easy to do. +Does not require any special tools. -May fracture the guarantee. -It's possible to break something if not careful enough. -It does not remove the very little looseness on the y axis. Enjoy =)

Steps in Replacing Hand Rail Brackets

Is the staircase in your home already old? Are the stair railings wobbly? If this is the case, then you may need to change your railings entirely or perhaps just the hand rail part.

Keep in mind that the railings serve as protection to people using the stairs every day. They need to be sturdy and secured well to their posts to allow for a safe ascent and descent. The rails, specifically the hand rails, are what people hold on to when they go up and down the house the very reason why they have to be fixed right away should they become wobbly.

If this is your problem, then one of the main parts you will need to check and repair are the hand rail brackets. These brackets are those that secure the hand rail to the wall and the rail posts through the use of screws. Rails that wobble can be due to screws that become loose.

Let's say you want to remodel your staircase and replace your old rail brackets. The first step is to remove the old brackets by unscrewing them using the appropriate screw driver. Start from the ends to ensure that the handrail's weight is still evenly supported. Then get the exact size of the bracket before you order for the new ones.

If you're not sure about the size and you plan to get the new ones from your local store, you can bring the old bracket along and show it to the sales staff. This is the best way to get the perfect match for your rail.

Before installing your new brackets, check that the old ones were screwed to the wall studs. If this is so, you can attach the new ones to the same framing. Screwing to a wall stud or any solid framing is important to ensure that your handrail will be secured well in its place.

Typically, hand rail brackets are placed 48 inches apart while hand rails should be installed at a height of 34 to 38 inches from the stair treads. But as a reminder, do not just rely on screwing your new brackets to the old holes. You have to create new holes apart from the old ones to make a sturdy installation.

If you'd like to use all the new holes, don't forget then to patch the old holes using spackling compound. After it has dried, sand it lightly before priming and painting it.

There are many styles of brackets today that can help achieve the unique effect you want. Whether you want to provide a simple look to your hand rails or you want the staircase to be the center of attraction in your home, there are styles to suit every discerning taste. You can also choose to use those that hold entirely the rail or those that are just hidden on the sides.

For remodeling purposes, you can also change your existing hand rail if you so desire. Be sure to get the measurement of the old one to make it easy for you to order.

Bench Press Leg Raise Crunches For Lower Abs

So who doesn't want to tighten up their lower abs...raise your hand. Not a single hand went up...I had a feeling!

Well, I'm going to show you a leg-raise type of exercise that hits the lower abs hard. Working the lower abs will help you tighten up any lower-belly protrusions you might have and, if you've got fairly low bodyfat already, get those diagonal lines down your side/lower abs (technically known as the inguinal ligaments) that really catch the eye.

Here's the best part...not only does this exercise hit the lower abs hard, it takes practically all the stress off the lower back while doing it (a common problem with lying leg raises). The secret lies in the special way in which it's set up and performed.

What you're basically going to be doing is holding the bar (or dumbells) in the top position of a bench press while performing leg raises! It sounds simple and, honestly, it really is!

We're going to be using that weight that you're holding in the bench press top position to counterbalance the weight of your legs while you're doing the leg raise.

I've found this to make the leg raise exercise even MORE effective for the lower abs by anchoring your upper body, letting the abs really focus on doing the leg raise exercise without the torque on the lower back.

How To Do It:

The set up is simple...all you need is a barbell or dumbells. If you're using a barbell, I recommend doing the exercise in the power rack or on a flat barbell bench press station. If you're using dumbells, you can do this exercise just lying flat on the floor (you can just set the dumbells on the floor when you're done).

If you're using the barbell and rack setup, set the safety rails in the rack to a couple of feet off the ground. Lie down on the floor and grip the bar with a medium to close grip - no need to use a wide grip. The closer grip will be easier to maintain while doing the exercise.

As for the amount of weight to use, you don't need a tremendous amount for the exercise and counterbalancing to be effective. For myself, I just use 135 lbs on the bar and that works just fine. If you're using dumbells, it will also depend on how much you can hold up in that position when you're doing the exercise. Just experiment with what feels comfortable to you and take it from there!

Hold the weight at the top of the bench press with your arms locked out. Your legs will start out straight (or knees slightly bent) and horizontal, just off the ground.

In traditional lower ab leg raises, this places tremendous pressure on the lower back. Not here! The weight of the barbell counterbalances the legs and takes the stress off the lower back. The position of your arms (90 degrees to the body) also helps keep torque off the lower back.

Now do regular leg raises from there, keeping the legs stiff and slightly bent, bringing them all the way up to vertical.

Squeeze hard at the top then lower down slowly, bringing the legs down to a point a few inches from the floor. Keeping the legs off the floor keeps the tension on the abs strongly.

In the traditional leg raise, this is where you would have the most torque and pain in the lower back. When the legs are counterbalanced with the barbell, this position doesn't put NEARLY the same torque on the lower back!

This exercise hits the extreme lower abs like you just can't do with regular leg raises because of the counterbalancing force of the barbell held above you. The best part is, it can be done with barbells or dumbells so all you need are some free weights and you're ready to go!

Common Errors:

1. Letting the feet touch

Normally, not letting the feet touch the ground in between reps is what sends all the torque onto the lower back. With the counterbalance of the weight, you don't have that problem and can really attack the lower abs. Keep your feet 6 inches off the ground as you come down.

2. Not using enough weight

Be sure you have enough weight on the bar/dumbells that you effectively counterbalance your legs. If the weight isn't enough, you won't get the full benefits of the exercise. It's something you can experiment with. Remembers, you're NOT pressing the weight, you're just holding it in a lockout position so don't be shy to use a moderately heavy weight.

Tricks:

1. Add a crunch to meet in the middle

To really fire the total abdominal area, you can also do a crunch (against the resistance of the barbell/dumbells) at the same time as you do the leg raise. This double contraction against resistance will really fire up the abs!

Try this movement with your feet on the floor first (knees bent 90 degrees) so you get an idea of how it's done. Basically, it's just a simple crunch movement but done while holding the barbell in the lockout position!

When you include it in the with the leg raise (done simultaneously, coming up into the crunch as you are raising your legs), it makes for tremendous tension in the entire abdominal area.

CONCLUSION

This is an excellent exercise variation to use if you're interested in working the lower abs HARD. It takes the vast majority of the stress off the lower back and allows you to really dig in and work those lower abs into the ground!

Terracotta Balustrade and Railing - Typical Assembly and Restoration Methods

At one time, balustrade and railing systems were frequently fashioned using terracotta. Not surprisingly, then, the goal of many terra cotta renovation projects is to restore these elements to optimal condition. Terracotta balustrade and railing systems can be assembled in a number of different ways, which can make terracotta restoration extremely complex or relatively straightforward. This article outlines some of these configurations and the corresponding terra cotta renovation method for each.

Balustrade Systems

Like balustrade systems crafted from modern materials, those made from architectural terracotta are comprised of balusters or spindles, the top rail or coping, the base rail or plinth, and several piers. The main difference is that terracotta balustrade usually consists of many different segments. The following description of a terra cotta balustrade system represents a typical configuration. Each individual baluster is a two-piece unit, and the railings are composed of many short pieces attached with steel pins and mortar. In addition, the top rail of the balustrade is supported by a steel bar and anchored inside the terra cotta piers.

Terracotta restoration for this type of balustrade system involves producing single-piece balusters and rails composed of 12 to 14-feet units instead of many tiny segments.

Caps and Coping

Coping is another word for the top rail of a balustrade system, while caps are used to cover piers. Although terracotta coping and caps can be assembled in many different ways, most configurations require the use of numerous joints. The reason for this is simple: the manufacturing processes for architectural terracotta did not allow large pieces to be produced.

Terra cotta renovation for deteriorated caps and coping usually involves replacing several individual terracotta units with a single piece, which reduces the possibility of water infiltration.

Architectural Terracotta Railing: Threaded Rod Assembly

Unlike terracotta railings that are assembled using mortar, this method involves using threaded rod to attach sections of the railing to the structure below.

Terracotta restoration for threaded rod systems involves unbolting the damaged sections of the terra cotta element, removing them, and then replacing them with a terracotta substitute and (if necessary) stainless steel or galvanized steel supports. The terra cotta renovation process for this type of architectural terracotta railing system is more straightforward than for fully-mortared systems.

These are far from the only assembly methods for architectural terracotta railing and balustrade systems, and a company specializing in terracotta restoration will be able to work with most configurations.

How to Choose a Bed Rail That Works For You

Weather you need a little something extra to push off of in the morning, or something to make sure you don't fall on the floor at night, there are a number of different bed rails on the market. Do you need a half rail, a full rail, under the bed or between the mattress and box spring? These are questions that we don't think about every day. Different rails offer varying types of support, and what works for an 8-year-old probably won't work for a 78-year-old.

When looking for a bed rail, you first need to decide what you need it for. Is this rail to keep you from rolling out of bed at night, or is it one to help you stand up in the morning? Maybe you need both. Another thing to remember is who you are buying the rail for. A small rail might work great for a child, but may be too small or flimsy for a larger adult.

The first type of bed rail is referred to as a "security" or "safety" bed rail. These usually run most if not the full length of the bed. Security rails generally go under the mattress and have a rail on each side of the bed and have one or both sides adjustable to make it easier to get in and out of bed. There are also one sided security rails. They are L-Shaped, and slide under the mattress on one side of the bed. If you have a bed that is against the wall or there is another body in the way, this might work for you. Some bed rails are designed to keep a person safely in bed by making it difficult to raise or lower the bar by that person once they are in the bed. These are only recommended for people with a caretaker to aid them in both getting into and out of bed.

The second type of bed rail is referred to as a "grip" or "transfer" rail. These are generally one sided L-shaped pieces that fit underneath the mattress, but models that stand on the floor are not unheard of. They provide a handle for you to grab when you're getting into bed, and something to push off of when you're getting out. Most of the transfer rails are going to be stationary, but there are a couple that actually swing one side out from the bed (secured by a latch) to offer a better grip to stand up with. These transfer rails can often double as security rails. While they do not extend the full length of the bed, they can still prevent people from falling out of bed at night.

The last type of bed rail can best be classified as a travel bed rail. These are portable and require less setup than security rails and most transfer rails. They are, L-shaped and have straps that go around the base of the bed/box spring. This allows for a secure fit with little setup/breakdown time, perfect for hotel rooms or other unfamiliar beds.

So, what bed rail is best for you? Hopefully you have enough information to make an educated decision. If the bed rail isn't for you, make sure you consult the person that is going to be using it daily. Some people don't like to feel "trapped" in by a security rail and would much prefer a grip. Likewise, someone with a grip rail may still feel like they are going to fall out at night.

Adjustable Bed Rails - Comfort and Safety Packed

Due to the comfort and ease it provides, beds are one of the most favored things every human owns. Aside from it is the only place where you can relax and be your self, it creates wonders for the body especially that it affects the positioning of your systems. With the advent of the latest technology, old styles have also been given a tremendous makeover through the creation of adjustable bed rails. This type of bed gives so much comfort to the user because you can position the upper and lower body according to your heart's desire.

The un-leveling of the head from the rest of the body has been known to create wonders to your physique including but not limited to proper blood circulation, easing out of back pains and reduction of acid reflux. These types of beds have also been beneficial to those who are recovering or into a medical situation like orthopedic situations. Also associated are adjustable bed rails, another product of technology that provides not only comfort but most of all protection.

Adjustable bed rails are not only found and useful in hospitals. This type of device found in the market today as the name suggests can be adjusted as to the desired length of the user. Due to this feature the rail can be used not only as a barrier that prevents the one sleeping on the bed from falling out but it can be used as a hand rail to assist in getting out of bed. Attachment of the rails to the bed is secured because of a dual safety trap which also implies strength of the rail to hold on to the weight of the bed user and the same size and character of the strap fits all bed sizes even the king sized ones. Most bendable rails are also collapsible which enables the user to put it down to provide space for making the bed or when the user gets out. Reversibility is another feature of collapsible rails so one can use it on either side of the bed.

Adjustable bed rails these days need not two or more people for it to be assembled. As most products are made of light materials such as aluminum without comprising its strength, one can attach and detach it from the bed with no sweat and in a shorter period.

They have been used prevent very children who are very mobile even during sleep and adults alike from falling out of bed. It then serves as a guard that ensures the safety of the person without any trouble even if the user moves a lot during sleep. It also prevents children who are prone to sleep walking from getting out of the bed easily. With the magnificent features of adjustable bed rails combining comfort and safety is never too hard for anyone to achieve.

Learn All About The Clockwork Orange - The Glasgow Subway

The Glasgow Subway is the 3rd oldest underground rail network in the world, following London and Budapest, and this is a little introduction on what you'll be faced with when you get here.

As many may be aware already, it's known here as the 'Clockwork Orange' mainly because of the colour of its older trains. The great thing about the Glasgow Subway is that it's extremely easy to follow, and that despite how dark and cavernous some of the stations might look, actually it's the most convenient, cheap and fastest way to get about the City Centre & the West End of Glasgow.

Finding your way around the simple Glasgow Subway map is easy peasy! There's only two circles, an inner and an outer. At every station you'll find a big map of the Glasgow Subway, and all you need to do is pick one of the 15 stations that'll take you to nearest where you're going, look at which circle it's on, and jump the next train that's on that line.

Don't worry about this however. If you get confused and end up on the wrong line, bear in mind that it's just a circle. Every train takes about 24 minutes to get around the whole line. So if you go the wrong way it won't take you long to be taken back to where you want to go anyway. Now what other underground network elsewhere can do that for you?

Another great point about the Glasgow Subway is that price isn't based on the length of your journey, and you'll see the very simple fare guide at each station. A good idea if you'll be here for a while is to pick up at any of the stations a Discovery Ticket. With this you'll be given a leaflet showing the best attractions, tourist info etc. that'll help you plan your day. The ticket allows you to travel unlimited round the Glasgow Subway if your journey starts after 9.30am. Alternatively, you could also pick up a 10 or 20 journey pass or the season tickets.

The trains run very frequently throughout the day, and at night you'll find a bus service that runs until the morning, stopping at each station at the same frequency as the trains do during the day.

The Glasgow Subway is also pretty famous for the 'Glasgow Subcrawl', which is a favourite past-time for students, stag & hen do's and Christmas revellers. It involves the basic idea that you buy an unlimited ticket, and head round each of the 15 stations on the Subway, stopping at the closest bar at each station for a pint or other alcoholic drink, until you go full circle and end the night in a club to celebrate your success. Believe me when I say that it's a brilliant laugh - just don't assume you'll remember how you managed it!

So I hope this little guide introduces you to the Clockwork Orange. I go into it in a little more detail in my site, but would be happy to answer any queries you might have on travelling on it when you get to Glasgow.

Is Public Transport in Paris Easy?

If you like to mix travel with confusion and sight seeing with bafflement then Paris is the place to be. It is like a jigsaw puzzle with missing pieces, frustrating. The city has more tourist attractions than almost any city in the world but if you plan to drive good luck getting to them.

Thank goodness for the METRO. The Paris metro system is the most efficient mode of transportation on the planet, bar none. The metro system has 380 stations. The stations that stop without continuing are called Terminus stations. Sixteen rail lines serve them. The rail lines are colour coded and easy to follow. In fact, the entire system is very well thought-out.

RER lines and Commuter Rails are like the metro only with fewer lines (5) dedicated to them. These trains travel to the outskirts of the city and into the suburbs. On the rails map, they are lettered A through E. RER also services the airports. If you want to cross the city quickly or get in and out of the city, consider the RER as the express metro system. The commuter rails travel above ground and actually go into the suburbs. Many travellers making the daily work commute use these during the week.

Ticket pricing would be too complicated to go onto here but I can say that the best way to purchase travel tickets would be carnet. (Pronounced CAR-NAY) Carnet is buying a pack of ten tickets. In France, you ride by length of time rather by than distance so it is good to have extra tickets should you decide to make an extended stop.

The same tickets you use for the metro are used for the bus. The bus system in Paris is a good one. First, you actually see the city while you ride. This is obviously a big plus if you are visiting for the first time. There are more buses in Paris than in most major cities of the world. One problem I mentioned above is the bus stops. You have to be on your toes to figure out where the buses let passengers on and off. If you want to transfer to another bus, you have to have a different ticket. Bus transfer tickets have a T+ on them and cost a little bit mote that a regular ticket.

It is possible to travel to most of the tourist attractions by boat. You can purchase a pass that is good all day and enjoy eight stops along the Seine River. The cost is 12 euros. ($16.50 American dollars) Wouldn't you rather travel by boat, anyway? The public transport Paris has offers each individual a variety of options when travelling.

Finally, the French have come up with a way to get around the city and stay healthy doing it. There are bicycle stations called Velib Stations. They are everywhere and the process is a simple one. You go to a velib station and take a bike out of its rack. Then, simply ride the bike to your hearts content. When you are done, no matter where you are, drop the bike at the closest Velib station and you are on your way.

Overall, it is very easy to get around in Paris. With Public Transport Paris is wide open. Besides public transportation, you can rent a car but I do not recommend it, unless you are very familiar with Paris and do not mind tourist constantly getting in your way. Besides, I think I would enjoy Paris on a bike. It would be so very, French.

Why I Couldn't Get Enough of Italian Men in Rome!

The stereotypical image of Italian men; tall, dark and very, very handsome. Is this stereotypical image untrue, I ask myself? After spending 2 enchanting weeks holidaying in the 'Eternal city' of Rome, sightseeing with my friends, mingling with the local hotties, I have to say this stereotype is, in my experience, a definite 100%. Although many of them think they are God´s gift to women - for once, they're right...

My two week holiday started when we arrived at the most amazing Rome apartment, close to the Piazza de Popolo. We were really geared up about the holiday and all the great must sees; The Vatican City, Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps but also and we couldn't wait to get onto the fantastic Piazza Novona, packed with people in the restaurants, cafes and bars at night.

We immediately noticed how dark, strong and sensitive the men were, and so well dressed too! I had always been a fan of Italian footballers, especially Manuele Blasi, Fabio Cannavaro, Gennaro Gattuso, Andrea Pirlo and Gianluca Zambrotta, and in Rome I felt like I had a hundred Zambrotta´s all around me! Italian men seem to have a certain something about them, I'm not sure if it's the way they speak English with an Italian accent when you ask them for directions, or the way they are so interesting to talk to, playful and funny.

We met a group of men in a bar, they were dressed very smartly. Some of the best bars I've ever been to were in Rome and I think we met these guys in "Anima" in the Historic Centre, they had been to a wedding that day, and looked positively dashing in their suits. Marco, Luca and Francesco were their names, it was hard getting this out of them, as they spoke hardly any English, and we spoke next to no Italian, apart from my friend Becca who is studying it at university. The guys were from Florence but were staying in a hotel in Rome near to the Piazza Novona and said they would show us round because they knew Rome quite well.

We spent the fifth day of our trip sightseeing together, they guys said they'd show us the attractions in Rome such as; Capitoline Museums at the Piazza del Campidoglio, Fontana Dell'acqua Paola and the Piazza Della Repubblica. We had a great day together. The guys were really sweet, opening doors for us, pulling out chairs, paying for lunch - certainly something you wouldn't expect in England we laughed, - at home, a man´s idea of romance is normally more like 'Fancy a pint luv?'

Towards the end of the trip there was a lot of romance in the air, I think it was not only how sweet the Italian boys were, but also just being in Rome itself. Although the city itself is loud and chaotic, (as is to be expected in 'the city that never sleeps'), the pretty sidestreets, boutiques and cafes are filled with couples holding hands, children riding their bikes and old people sitting on the benches gossiping and watching the world go by.

Quite honestly, whilst I was sitting in a enchanting square in one of the most exciting cities in the world with my friends and 3 beautiful Italian men, I was completely content and couldn't have imagined anything better than just being there and enjoying myself

The Best Baby Crib Features You Should Seek

The best baby crib features in existence today are so different from when I was a kid. Technology has advanced so much when it comes to babies. Today, we have it a little easier and I suppose that's a good thing for you and your baby.

Baby cribs used to just slide up and down, and be configured in a square shape with a thick hard mattress. Now the best baby crib features are so different. These days baby crib rails glide down without the hassle of a foot bar to push in. Now you bump them with your hip and down they go.

Cribs also come in different styles and shapes. You can get baby bed features just like those you might find in a regular bed for an adult. They come in sleigh beds and day beds, for example. But not only that, they also come with the flexibility of being converted from crib to toddler bed, to a full bed for a teenager.

Baby Crib features include tiltable the mattress, convertibility, and easy sliding rails for access into the crib without bending over the bar. Some cribs also come on wheels to make them easier to move around a room or your home. Further, some baby cribs come with extra features such as collapseable frames for easy transporting. But does that really sound safe to you? Do your homework on this idea before proceeding.

Manufacturers also make round cribs. This feature is good for any style nursery because it allows the baby to be safe in the middle without worrying about the baby being trapped between the bars or rails.

Baby beds should also be very safe and there are a few things you should investigate before buying. One thing is that you should make sure the crib is tight fitting and there are no slats or rails by the babies head. And make sure that the crib is certified with The Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Yes, it's amazing how crib features have changed over the years. However, you still have to make sure that the crib meets all safety requirements. And believe it or not, the safety regulations aren't that strong. It's also a good idea to perform a search to see which cribs have been recalled because of some defect.

In conclusion there are a lot of things to consider when it comes to the best baby crib features these days and you should take your time for the safety of your new baby.

Bartender Tools - The Essential Tools That Should Be Behind Every Bar

A lot of times when people open a new bar or are throwing a big party, they always seem to forget something. It's usually one of the "bartender tools" that are necessary but are also easily forgettable. The "bartenders tools" are very important, some are optional and you can live without, but in my experience when you forget lemons is when people want lemondrops or tequila shots. When you don't have lime wedges, everybody orders Margaritas or Mojitos. So in the Holiday Spirit for the party season. I have put together a little checklist of "bartender tools" that you might need.

This is basically for those of you who wish to start their own home bar from scratch, are having a party, or just wish to practice at home. All of these tools will be supplied for you otherwise. These are just the bare minimums to get by on, you of course will want to add stuff as your creativity, knowledge, and experience progress.

AT THE BAR: This is where most of you "bartender tools" will be kept for easy access. A set of mixing tins an ice scoop, a bar spoon, a muddler,a glass rimmer, straws, and napkins. A fruit caddy with lime wedges, lemon wheels, maraschino cherries, orange slices, green olives, cocktail onions, and celery sticks. You might also need sugar packets, salt, pepper, celery salt, hot sauce, worcestershire sauce, and whipped cream. The more complex of a drink menu you have, the more garnishments you will need. I've seen everything from pop-rocks to jalapenos.

BEHIND THE BAR: To cover your mixers that you will need for the average crowd you will need: Orange juice (OJ), Pineapple juice (PJ), Cranberry juice(CJ),Grapefruit Juice (GJ), Tomato juice, ½ & 1/2 or cream, Sour-mix, Grenadine, Rose's Lime Juice, Coke, Lemon- Lime Soda(7), Club Soda, Tonic Water, Ginger Ale, Strawberry Daiquiri mix, Peach daiquiri mix, Pina Colada Mix, and Margarita Mix.

THE WELL: Your "well" is your speed rail right behind your bar where you keep your most requested liquors. They are usually the cheapest off-brand of these liquors. These are the commonly used liquors for HAPPY HOUR specials known as well drinks. Every bartender sets up their well and speed rail differently but I go with what I have been taught as the traditional well set-up. From left to right I follow the old acronym: "Virgin Girls Run With Big Studs To Town." Which reminds me: Vodka, Gin, Rum, Whiskey, Bourbon, Scotch, Tequila, Triple- Sec. This set up is especially handy for making Long Islands and Margaritas. You'll see what I mean once you are standing back there.

THE BAR: The liquors you choose to carry are all up to you. I suggest visiting a local corporate restaurant and building your inventory off of their set-up.

What to serve? That's up to you. If you run or own an establishment then you need to be able to cover pretty much any drink imaginable. But for a private party, I suggest going over a drink menu (there are FREE ones on-line) and finding 40-50 drinks that you can make with less than 10 different liquors.
